Gibson guitars has appointed James ‘JC’ Curleigh, previously president of Levi Strauss & Co. as their new CEO as of 1st of November 2018.
Also announced is a new management team with the task of focusing on production quality and market synergies.
Curleigh stated in a Gibson press release: “As a business leader and a brand builder, this is the beginning of a new era for Gibson that will build on its proven heritage and iconic status. We are focusing on the future and off to a fresh start, with a strong financial foundation, a committed and experienced new leadership team and new ownership that is equally passionate about the brand. As the industry leader, we have an opportunity and an obligation to set the best conditions for success for our brands, our fans, our partners and our own extended team. I look forward to leading Gibson confidently into the future.
The trend of hiring outside the music industry continues for the big manufacturers (ie Fender) though they talk a good game the results don;t always match.
They also have a habit of focusing on new products and marketing gimmicks instead of putting focus on the tradition handed down over the decades. Which is why most guitar players use specific brands and models.
