JBL PRX ONE Update Review

Update 28/12/25
A Frimware update for the JBL PRX ONE only v5.4.3.0 was released for improved BlueTooth and TWS playback.
And Pre/Post Fader issues. Also changed the how delayed the limit light activation.

Doing this update will reset BT connections.
I got a few reports that no major problems after updating, and no significant improvements either.
So if it works fine and you don’t have BT issues there’s no urgent need to update the app or the firmware yet.

Updates for other devices are planned for Jan 2026.

Update 25/08/25
Many reports of the new update deleting there setting and losing their presets.

Update 21/08/25
Another update has just been released with little information and not yet tested by us.

After many issues JBL have released update on the 16th of June.
I purposely held off on this update as my PA was working fine and people were reporting issues.
On July 1st I updated my JBL Pro Connect app to version v.02.03.04 and firmware to the latest 5.3.9.0 version.

While everything seems to be working so far, here are some issues I came across.

1. Channel 7 line input level now goes only up to 0db. Previously it was able to go to +12dB.
This may be an issues for those who we using backing tracks that now need to lower the other channel levels for balance. Changing the levels also affects the reverb, delay and compressor settings.
This mainly affects previous owners.

2. Ch 7 volume can only be adjusted inside the App, turning the knob on the sub does nothing.

3. Anti feedback slower to pickup resonating frequencies.

4. There’s a constant noise gate on the whole system that cannot be turned off. This may introduce sonic artifacts on a quiet acoustic performance as unused channels turn on and off.

5. Still seems to be issues remembering and loading all preset values.

6. Presets loading much slower.

7. Icon misalignment on Android tablets.

8. Main mute control does not mute the AUX out.

A nice improvement is being able to disable the sliders that are so easy to be accidentally moved by just lightly tapping the screen. I’ve done this a few times when trying to scroll up or down I’ve turned a channel way to high or too low.

All up the JBL PRX One has been a disappointment during the last few months.
After doing almost one hundred gigs of all types and sizes I’m of the opinion that JBL is not catering to professional musicians.
This is not what I expect from a “professional” PA system. A whole stack of update malfunctions and the only issue that I think is fixed or improved is the level slider disable function.
There’s nothing professional about JBL’s internal quality control, which seemed existent in this case.
And it’s a shame as the PRX One speakers do sound good and it’s a very convenient package.
It’s a case of good hardware turned terrible by it’s software.

Unfortunately the JBL PRX Facebook forum is not all that much helpful either, complaints and criticisms are generally deleted and it’s overrun by brand fanatics.

Here’s the update sequence I went though:

  1. Update JBL Pro Connect app
  2. Update Firmware. screen will go blank when finished.
  3. Wait a few minutes for unit to restart.
  4. Forget device/speaker in the JBL Pro Connect app
  5. Add the speaker to the app.
  6. Test, load presets and test.
